India's driver's licenses are easy to obtain despite chaotic, lawless roads.

India has varying state rules for licenses but they work nationwide. Minimum age is 16 for small engines, 18 for cars and bikes, 20 for commercial vehicles. Theory exam needs 12 correct out of 20 basic questions. Provisional license lasts 6 months and allows driving with an experienced holder. Practical exam requires own vehicle, city drive, and explaining car parts. Full license valid 20 years or until age 50, renewable every 5 years after 50. Roads are narrow, potholed, and mix all traffic including pedestrians, cows, elephants, and overloaded scooters. Traffic rules like lanes, lights, and direction are universally ignored. Faster, bigger vehicles dominate regardless of rules. Cows get absolute priority on roads. Six-person families on one scooter is normal. Buses block roads casually. Getting a license is pointless given the anarchy.
