Hybridization causes outbreeding depression that worsens with genetic distance. Model ELAB simulates diploid populations to test hybridization effects. Magnitude of depression grows with larger population size, lower mutation rate, cross-fertilization, and higher recombination. Duration of depression grows with larger population size and partial self-fertilization. Local adaptation disruption causes stronger but shorter depression than intrinsic coadaptation disruption. One migrant per generation into 100-individual population damages as much or more than 50:50 mixture. Genetic distance alone poorly predicts hybridization success.
