79% of 2024 World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship participants are female. Males comprise 21% of qualifiers but only 11% of finalists. Males significantly underperform females overall with p<0.001. Males overrepresented among worst performers in qualification rounds. Excluding non-finishers equalizes male and female performance. Men win 2 of 4 golds and 4 of 12 medals despite being minority participants. Female advantage in jigsaw solving if any is modest unlike male dominance in chess. Prior studies show females better at jigsaws in kids and young adults. Jigsaw solving differs from male-advantaged 3D rotation tasks. Stereotypes link female edge to superior color perception. Greater male variability not convincingly explaining bottom-heavy male distribution. Fewer males participate possibly due to lower average ability. Talent drives interest biasing participant pool against males. Event mixes serious competitors and casual amateurs. Casual males cluster at performance bottom.
