Rubinowicz born 1889 in Austro-Hungarian Bukovina to Polish parents. Earned doctorate 1914 from University of Czernowitz. Studied under Sommerfeld in Munich 1916 becoming his assistant. Developed Maggie-Rubinowicz representation independently from Maggi's 1888 version. His form of diffraction representation now more commonly accepted. Contributed to radiation theory quantum mechanics and diffraction throughout career. Published on Sommerfeld's atomic theory extensions. Wrote books on Sommerfeld polynomial method and Kirchhoff diffraction theory. Served as professor at Ljubljana Lwów and Warsaw universities. President of Polish Physical Society 1949-1952 and 1961-1974. Transformed surface integral to line integral for scalar and electromagnetic fields in diffraction.
