Starčevo culture dates 6200-4500 BCE in Southeastern Europe. Originated from Early Neolithic farmers in Asia Minor via Sesklo or Mavropigi. Expanded northwards along river routes like Morava Valley. Oldest sites Crkvina Serbia and Runik Kosovo at 6238-6185 BCE. Samples show Y-DNA G2a2, H2, C, I2, R1b. mtDNA includes T1a2, K1a, N1a, J1c, U5b. Ancestry 87-100% Early European Farmers, minimal Western Hunter-Gatherer or Steppe. Pottery coarse evolving to finer painted vessels. Bone spatulas used for flour scooping. Covered Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria. Gave rise to Linear Pottery culture. Related to Criş and Karanovo cultures. Westernmost sites in Croatia Slavonia 6200-5500 BCE. Genetic continuity from Anatolian farmers to central Balkans.
