Recent Australian Kow Swamp fossils show Homo erectus traits ancestral to modern Aboriginals.

Kow Swamp type fossils dated 10-30k years ago exhibit archaic Homo erectus features. Modern Australian Aboriginals retain these primitive traits to varying degrees. KS types include Talgai, Cohuna, Nacurrie, Coobool Creek, Willandra Lakes. These robust fossils contrast with older gracile Lake Mungo population. Late Homo erectus like Solo Man survived to 27k years ago in nearby Java. KS crania have low broad shape, large brain volumes up to 1500ml, sagittal ridges, brow ridges, postorbital constriction, receding foreheads, occipital buns. KS types show thick cranial walls, narrow braincases, heavy faces, prognathism, large jaws without chins, large teeth. Critics like Peter Brown downplay similarities despite concessions on most traits. Artificial deformation theory fails to explain all archaic features. KS fossils indicate hybridization or descent from late erectus or archaic sapiens. Aboriginal isolation preserved archaic lineages post-arrival. Political caution ignores genetic continuity in Aboriginal ancestry.
