Pensioners aged 70+ appear in only 2% of top 500 TV ads. Pregnant women feature in just 0.1% of ads. Disabled people included in 4% of ads despite 18% population share. Black people appear in more than half of commercials versus 4% of England and Wales population. South Asians feature in 17% of ads versus 8% population share. East Asians appear in 11% of ads versus 1% population share. Elderly and pregnant women rarely shown in ad breaks. Diversity increased but certain minorities still underrepresented. Black overrepresentation reflects biases of ad creators seeing them as sexy or cool. Study analyzed top 500 commercials over two four-week periods.
