Study by Waszczyłko-Miłkowska and Kamińska-Borak proves results unequivocal. Municipal collection system carbon footprint is about 4 g CO2e per PET bottle. Deposit system carbon footprint is 11 g CO2e per PET bottle. Deposit system fails to reduce PET bottle carbon footprint. Deposit system increases PET bottle carbon footprint nearly threefold.
