Saldanha man is fossilized archaic human remains from South Africa. Key specimen for Homo heidelbergensis. Estimated 500,000 years old. Found on Elandsfontein farm near Hopefield. Includes cranium and lower jaw fragment. Discovered among shifting sand dunes. Associated with fossil vertebrates. Initially classified as Homo saldanensis. Closely resembles Kabwe 1 from Zambia. Similar to LH 18 from Tanzania. Classified as African H. heidelbergensis or H. rhodesiensis. Kabwe 1 is former Rhodesian Man from Broken Hill mine.
