OH 83 recovered from upper Ndutu Beds Olduvai Gorge Tanzania. Dated ca. 60–32 ka. Morphology indicates early modern human. Post-orbital cranial breadth at low end of modern variation. Bifrontal breadth at high end of modern variation. Frontal length near average of modern variation. Middle Late Pleistocene fossils show mosaic cranial trait patterns. Morphological modernity evolved gradually not at once. By 60-32 ka African modern humans included small gracile crania. OH 83 assessed against penecontemporaneous fossils and Howells modern dataset. Cranial anatomy fails to sharply define Homo sapiens in fossils.
