Gold disc mount shows goddess Artemis riding sidesaddle on leocampus with gaping mouth. Turquoise triangular inserts create polychrome rim effect. Reverse has four loops for attachment. Sarmatians were Iranian-speaking nomads from northern Bactria who subdued Scythians. Sarmatian Animal Style distinct from Scythian with color inlays. Figures are fantastic beasts made from mixed animal parts as universe antagonists. Leocampus mythical creature with lion foreparts and fish tail. Artemis as Potnia Theron Mistress of Animals holding beasts. Artifact weighs 74.41 grams and measures 64mm. Fine condition with no damage. Acquired on UK market in 1990s from London gentleman. Checked against Interpol stolen art database. Accompanied by gemmologist report and AIAD certificate.
