Dalverzintepa major Kushan city on Silk Route branch. Site dates from 2nd-3rd centuries BCE. Fortress wall destroyed by Saxons in 2nd century BCE then restored by Kushans. 1972 excavation yields largest regional gold treasure at 36kg. Treasure hidden in clay jug under rich citizen's house floor. 115 gold items date to 1st century CE. Includes necklace with reused Heracles carnelian intaglio from ring. Gold men's necklace with turquoise and garnet matches Gandhara Buddha sculptures. City contains Zoroastrian altar, Buddhist temple, Bactrian shrine. Buddha statue found in city temple. Magnate statue and prince head from 1st-2nd centuries. Associated with Tokharian Turkic tribes.
