Ramesses III carried native Egyptian E1b1b-V22 haplogroup, not Sub-Saharan E1b1a, due to erroneous STR values.

Study wrongly assigned Ramesses III and Unknown Man E to Sub-Saharan E1b1a haplogroup. E1b1a dominates Sub-Saharan Africa but is nearly absent in North Africa and Horn. STR values like 393=8, 19=19, 391=8, 392=17 are statistically impossible errors. Corrected haplotype fits E1b1b-V22, centered in Egypt. E1b1b-V22 occurs in 15% North Egyptians, 5% western oases, 4% South Egyptians. E1b1a appears in only 2% Egyptians. 390=21 favors E1b1a but 438=10 strongly favors E1b1b. 385a/b=20/20 rare but fits E1b1b-V22 high values. 389a/b=13/33 rare high but consistent across haplogroups. Egyptian E1b1b-V22 frequencies drop outward from Egypt to Northwest Africa, Ethiopia/Sudan, Levant. Ramesses III's lineage is quintessentially Egyptian like Irish R1b-M222. Reference modern haplotypes were normal, confirming mummy STR errors. Same erroneous haplotype in another mummy suggests lab issues. E1b1b-V22 is most common E1b1b variety in Egypt.
