Peers Cave skeleton discovered in late 1920s Western Cape South Africa. Skeleton known as SAM-AP 4692 or Fish Hoek Man. Previously thought Middle Stone Age upper Pleistocene. Most complete upper Pleistocene South African human skeleton. Included in studies by Keith, Howells, Rightmire, others as Pleistocene example. No prior direct radiocarbon date. New AMS 14C dating rejects upper Pleistocene age. Skeleton is young mid-Holocene. Status as Pleistocene human overturned. Casts distributed to museums like Natural History Museum London. Found in rock shelter at 34°7.14′S 18°24.49′E. South Africa upper Pleistocene record sparse. Skeleton male human.
