Last week, the Diocese of Płock announced that this year's Nobel Prize winner in physics, John Joseph Hopfield, “has Polish roots.” “His parents were physicists. John Joseph Hopfield's father was born on March 17, 1891, in Płock—then part of the Congress Kingdom—at 4 Synagogalna Street. His mother's name was Konstancja,” , it was reported at the time, adding that the baptism certificate of the Nobel laureate's father had been found in the Diocesan Archives in Płock.
