A new model for collisions of protons with protons or atomic nuclei has been developed at IFJ PAN in Krakow, Poland, which takes into account the interactions of gluons with a sea of virtual quarks and antiquarks. The Gluon Exchange Model (GEM) simplifies the internal structure of protons and the course of collisions involving them.
