The effect is counterintuitive: the brighter the beam of laser light, the weaker the diffraction image, physicists from Japanese, Polish and German scientific institutions have explained. Understanding this phenomenon is the hope for the production of laser pulses significantly shorter than existing ones, reports the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which is involved in the research.
