JET fusion reactor breakthrough

The Oxford Joint European Torus (JET) has succeeded in achieving a fusion reaction lasting 5 seconds with a record amount of energy produced. This is an important step on the road to fusion energy. The experiment, the result of which was presented on Thursday, involved more than 300 scientists affiliated with the EUROfusion consortium, including researchers from the Polish Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microsynthesis (IFPiLM).
