Researchers at the UW's Department of Chemistry have developed a nanocatalyst that can convert waste glycerol and carbon dioxide into glycerol carbonate under mild and environmentally friendly conditions. This is a compound used in lithium-ion batteries, bioplastics and pharmaceuticals, among other applications.
