A BBC investigation in the U.K. several years ago found that at least 55 percent of the Pakistani community in the U.K. had married a first-degree cousin. The BBC investigation also found that while the number of births to British Pakistanis is only 3.4 percent of all births in the UK, they account for 30 percent of all cases in the UK of children with recessive genetic disorders and infant deaths.
