Is low-skilled immigration good for the economy? Perhaps there are some compliments here and there. Perhaps doctors can see more patients because some migrant somewhere is picking tomatoes. But this view is fundamentally short-sighted. You can import labor, but you also import a lot of other things besides labor itself, most of which we want less of - not more. So even if there are some indirect benefits, all the indirect costs easily outweigh them.
