Studies of ancient DNA from the Swahili coastal population of Tanzania have shown that around 1000 AD, migrants from Southwest Asia interacted with the African population, contributing to about half of the genetic heritage of the individuals studied. Despite this, the Swahili culture remained African and Bantu in nature. The findings contradict previous theories and myths about alien influence on the Swahili community.
