The number of children who identify as a different gender than the one assigned to them at birth is on the rise in the United States. More and more families are having to make decisions about caring for children who identify as transgender. In 2021, some 42,000 children and adolescents in the U.S. will receive a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, nearly triple the number in 2017.
