White people more than 9,000 years ago developed agriculture and sailed ships. Minoan samples had 21 different mitochondrial DNA markers, including six unique to Minoans and 15 common in modern Bronze Age and Neolithic European populations. None of the Minoans had mitochondrial markers similar to those found in modern African populations. The results were published online today in the journal Nature Communications.
