A 2012 article presented Y-STR data for Pharaoh Ramses III, who reigned from 1186-1155 BC. The authors used the Whita Atheya haplogroup predictor to predict that Ramses III belonged to the negroid haplogroup E1b1a, which caused euphoria among Afrocentrists. However, this thread challenges the validity of the Y-STR data, and I analyzed it with the newer NevGen haplogroup predictor, which uses a more sophisticated methodology than Athey's predictor, and determined that Ramses III belonged to the Caucasian haplogroup E1b1b with a probability of 97.3%. This result is much more logical because, as the images below show, neither the paintings of Ramses III nor his mummy show negroid characteristics.
