Research on the genomes of prehistoric Africans has shown that the ancestral line of the San people had a wider range in the past. West African farmers have also been shown to have completely replaced local hunter-gatherers in some regions. The study also showed that a population of pastoralists from Tanzania contributed to today's population from northern to southern Africa.
