Ancient DNA research identifies the Caucasian-Dolyn-Volga people as the ancient creators of Proto-Indo-European, the predecessors of the vast family of Indo-European languages. This population lived on the Eurasian steppe within the borders of present-day Russia some 6,500 years ago, and their descendants spread Indo-European languages around the world.
