High energy costs in the EU are threatening the Qemetici soda plant in Kuyavia, which plans to lay off 350 workers and go into hibernation. Soda production in Poland is unprofitable due to CO2 costs and competition from Turkey. The mayor of Janikowo fears difficulties in reactivating the plant. Unemployment in the Inowrocław district is twice the national average.
