The share of foreigners in various types of crime, such as pickpocketing (80.1 percent), shoplifting (47.3 percent), robbery (45.7 percent) and life-threatening crimes (41.6 percent), is particularly significant. According to data released by Reul's ministry, police in North Rhine-Westphalia investigated 484,462 suspects last year, 34.9 percent of whom did not have German citizenship. At the same time, the proportion of foreigners in the state's population was 15.6 percent.
