A prominent transgender activist in Chile has been exposed as a juvenile sex offender after a failed attempt to hide his past. María López Barrera, formerly known as Rodrigo Alejandro López Barrera, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a boy and infecting him with HIV. After his release in 2019, he returned to LGBT activism and regained prominence in the LGBT community.
