Genetic and archaeological studies suggest the existence of significant demographic changes during the late Pleistocene and early Holocene in sub-Saharan Africa. Analysis of ancient DNA data from six individuals from eastern and central-southern Africa over the past 18,000 years confirms the mixing structure of three distant source populations, suggesting regionalization at the end of the Pleistocene.
