Modern Europeans, that is, the population of the Neolithic Near East (no admixture of sub-Saharan genes, unlike the modern population) initiated animal husbandry, starting with woolly sheep. It then spread to other regions. Studies of ancient sheep DNA indicate a secondary introduction of woolly sheep from the Middle East into most areas of Eurasia between the Bronze and Iron Ages.
