A German man who described a judge as "obviously mentally ill" - after the judge handed down a lenient sentence to a Syrian man who raped a 15-year-old girl - was fined 5,000 euros for "insulting" the judge. This fine levied on Paul S., whose name was changed to protect his identity, was almost twice as much as the fine levied on the Syrian rapist. Not only did the Syrian not have to serve jail time, but he was even praised during the trial by the district judge for his integration efforts.
